Earlier this year, Betsy developed a new green/black glaze combination. It was a hit at summer art fairs. Food looks fabulous on it….but it doesn’t have a name! That’s up to you. It combines the rich warm black of Old Black Magic and a new kind of celery green…very like old celadons of ancient China and Korea.
GLAZE NAMING CONTEST
November 22, 2008 By 20 Comments
As a starter, some of our other glaze names are, Old Black Magic, Midnight Garden, Tequila Sunrise, Todd Lake, Old Celadon, etc. There could be $25 bucks in it for you. Just click on the ‘comments’ section below and let us know your idea. Enter as many as you wish per comment.
We’ll make our decision (over a couple of glasses of wine down at Zella’s (Hutchinson’s spiffy new restaurant)) by December 15th.

I vote for Mossy Road off of the previous entry.
Betsy–
I stopped by to check out this new glaze and came up with an extensive list, should be worth at least another glass of wine!
First of all, I thought sticking with some names that are inspired by your prairie setting would be somewhat “signature.”
Here goes:

Prairie Trail
Native Mint
Mossy Road
Meadow Rue
Spring Shadow
Prarie Wind
Spring Willow
Wild Rye
WoodRush
Star Grass
Mint Tea
Sandbar Willow

How about pistachio chocolate swirl??
The colors remind me of the jungle – greens and shades of browns.
How about – Safari Swirl
The new glaze is very pretty. It reminds me of Chocolate Chip mint ice cream.
How about Espresso Mint?

Thin Mint?
Spring Dew?
Grasshopper?
Mountain Dew?…oh wait, that’s been taken.
So…what is it???
Brothers would say daughters always win. As for rules? we just make it up as we go…and-new rule-nieces can win!
Daughters never win.
Also, I think that you should auction off this beautiful piece for some Green Charity. Like the Environmental Defense Fund or something.
Or these guys, I really like them:

If daughters can’t win, I’m guessing nieces can’t win either.
Where are the official contest rules for this thing?? Where’s my lawyer?
My suggestions for the new glaze are: “Spring Surprise” or “Vernal Equinox.” This glaze just reminds me of the transition from winter to spring. The Spring Equinox is associated with, or known as: Alban Eilir, Eostar, Eostre, Feast of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Festival of Trees, Lady Day, NawRuz, No Ruz, Ostara, Ostra, Rites of Spring, and the Vernal Equinox. (Thank you Google.) Any of these would be kind of cool too, especially “Rites of Spring”) except maybe the Feast of the Annunciation one. Unless, of course, you are Catholic.
Norwegian Wood. If I win, I’ll split the prize with Stacey.
Since daughters can’t win I am only submitting unwinable names.
Give peas a Chance
Pistachio Pudding
Oscar the Grouch
Huevos Verdes
That’s all I got so far.

I grow Tundra willow for basket making and other fiber arts projects. To me – this is willow green with its dark brown stems…. enticing and cool…
The colors remind me of the mossy woods around Long Lake. The dark browns and blacks especially conjure up memories of the Hemlock needles that used to collect around the shore by the dock.
I’ll have to put my thinking cap on to come up with some names…
